The organization:
The department of Piping & Plant Design works on the engineering of (multidisciplinary) projects in the petrochemical-,
paper-, process-, water- and food industries; from initial research to turnkey realization.
The department of Plant Design is part of the application field of Industrial Projects. Work activities are both in office as well as on site.
Job information:
As Lead Piping Engineer in the department of Plant Design, you will work with a high degree of independence.
Additionally, you lead a project team of engineers, designers and draftsmen. The Lead Engineer reports to- and receives
instructions from the project manager and/or the department head. As Lead Piping Engineer, you possess mechanical
engineering expertise, as well as project leadership competencies and a strong personality.
The Lead Piping Engineer will consult with other disciplines within the organization in multidisciplinary projects.
Your tasks:
• You have a leading role in the technical implementation of projects. You master all stages of a technical project;
• You keep a (multidisciplinary) technical overview of a project, from concept- to the detail engineering stage and realization;
• You deliver projects properly and timely, in which quality, requirements and budget are met according to planning;
• You compile budgets and prepare offers for project orders and/or design changes;
• You consult with- and report to the project manager and/or team leader concerning planning, progress and project/design changes;
• You provide good written reports;
• You maintain contact with clients and suppliers;
• You guide, train, and advise a team of designers and engineers;
• You make suggestions for improvement of the work atmosphere and motivation of the team members;
• You take a very active role in the further development and improvement of quality of the department;
• You provide an example role for the department and project team.
Your responsibilities:
• Has final responsibility for the functional aspects of the project;
• Is responsible for the organizational and technical execution of the instructed activities, within the set time and budget;
• Is responsible for the quality of the delivered work, including control registrations and design verifications;
• Is responsible for the output and productivity of their team.
Your authorizations:
• Correcting with respect to guidance of project team members, progress- and cost management, and quality of the project and its documentation;
• Approving and signing of documentation and drawings of the entire piping team, after checking for correctness and completeness.
Who are we looking for:
Knowledge, expertise and experience:
• A technical education at Bachelor/Master level;
• At least 5 years of experience in the piping- and process industry, and/or 5 years of experience as a Piping Engineer;
• Your experience enables you to identify design requirements and activate the engineer to verify certain matters
(like whether additional calculations are required, are matters verified with the client and documented?)
• You are capable of making technical calculations concerning the process design;
• You are capable of translating the process design (or having it translated) to a 2D/3D layout and/or detail drawings;
• You are capable of determining the documentation and activities required for the project;
• You have knowledge of budget management, cost management, planning- and progress management;
• You have knowledge of manufacturing organizations, safety- and government regulations and permits;
• You have extensive experience in working with- and conforming to client
specific/European/ American standards, design codes and guidelines concerning piping
(and preferably also concerning equipment) – and you are capable to challenge clients on this subject.
• You are capable of working both independently and within a multidisciplinary team;
• You have experience working in multidisciplinary projects, and you know what inputs are expected from you by the
various disciplines, and what inputs you require from them;
• You have proven experience leading a team, and you air seniority and calmness towards the team;
• You have knowledge and experience with 2D/3D CAD software packages relevant to your discipline;
• You are capable of quick and creative problem solving;
• You are used to communicate effectively at all levels in the (client-) organization;
• You master text-, spreadsheet- and planning software packages;
• You are capable of guiding and training colleagues within the piping team;
• You are independently capable of monitoring the progress and quality of your own work, as well as that of the
designer(s) and draftsman you manage, on a document and activity level;
• You are capable to instruct and manage (a team of) engineers, designers and draftsmen, in an enthusiastic and
constructive manner, and to help them develop;
• You take an example role in the improvement of the processes and quality within the department, and actively
contribute to the implementation of- and compliance with these improvements;
• You are capable of taking a de-escalating steps within the project team, as well as escalating steps towards
project management and or team leadership.
• You have a high proficiency in English, both written and spoken;
• You have good communicative skills.
